The Class Ring

The Class Ring

By Ralphine Major

Mine was made of a gold setting.  On top was a beautiful gold "G" in Old English lettering against a sparkling blue background.  The "G" stood for Gibbs, the name of our high school.  My initials were engraved inside the ring.  The cost of the ring assured that it was more than just a piece of costume jewelry.  As I recall, in 1970s dollars, the price of the class ring was $35!  It was a special day when the rings arrived.

The class ring is a symbol of accomplishment.  It represents the completion of years of education building up to the senior year of high school.  Throughout the senior year, the class ring is a reminder that the end of high school is approaching.  After the graduation ceremony, seniors often enroll in colleges, universities, trade schools, or vocational schools.  Many enter the workforce.  Over time, the class ring may be worn or may even end up in a drawer full of keepsakes—a reminder of bygone school days.  As other life events take place, the ring's importance may diminish somewhat.  But even after many years have passed, the class ring signifies a great accomplishment in a young life.  Congratulations to all the 2023 graduates!  May you be blessed with a life filled with success, health, and happiness.

Words of Faith: "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."  Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV).
