Old Glory Flying High in Corryton!  (Part 1)

Old Glory Flying High in Corryton!  (Part 1)

By Ralphine Major

It is breathtaking and beautiful!  Flying proudly atop a 100-foot-tall flagpole is a giant American flag measuring 20 feet by 30 feet.  Old Glory is flanked by the Christian flag and the Clear Springs Baptist Church flag, each one measuring 15 feet by 25 feet on 80-foot-tall flagpoles.

That America is a place where her people can even fly the flags is a testament to the courage and endurance of those brave veterans whom we honor on this Veterans Day.  When I see the flag blowing softly against a blue November sky, I think of all it represents:  the veterans who have served our nation, the military who are still serving today, and the solemn remembrance of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for America.  How appropriate for the flag—a symbol of our great United States of America—to stand tall and proud in front of a church since one of our greatest liberties is our freedom to worship at the church of our choice.  It is so easy to take that and our many other freedoms for granted.  How marvelous that passersby may be reminded of our freedoms as Old Glory waves her red, white, and blue on the hill at Clear Springs Baptist Church.  Blessings on this year's Veterans Day.  (Part 2 will share the wondrous story behind that beautiful flag at Clear Springs.)

Words of Faith chosen by the Pastor of Clear Springs, Rev. Justin Pratt: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13 (KJV).
