Turkeys and Thanksgiving

They are a common sight in our rural community. Almost daily, small flocks of wild turkeys can be seen roaming in pasture fields and yards. Months ago, a particular flock had several little ones that got hemmed up inside our chain link fence. They could not find the way out until someone went down toward them, and they flew out. I often think of the Pilgrims' first Thanksgiving when I see the wild turkeys.

This year promises to pose a Thanksgiving problem for many Americans. News reports indicate that there is a shortage of turkeys. Short supply and big demand equal higher prices. Most Americans will likely gather with family and friends for Thanksgiving 2022 to enjoy a day filled with football, turkey with all the trimmings, and parades. Thanksgiving is a perfect time to reflect on the happenings of the year. The somewhat slower pace during the holiday weekend gives a welcome relief from daily, hectic routines. Besides the pumpkin pie and turkey, Thanksgiving is a time set aside to appreciate all the many blessings that we have. Freedom. Food. Family. Jobs. Homes. Churches, and so much more.
