Open Streets Knoxville is returning to South Knoxville Sunday

On Sunday, May 15, from 2-6 p.m. the Knoxville community is invited to walk, bike, jog, or dance their way through town at Open Streets Knoxville. Sevier Avenue will be closed to all motorized traffic from Atchley St. to Suttree Landing via Foggy Bottom St., allowing revelers a day of playing, exercising, and socializing all on foot or wheels.

Open Streets Knoxville, hosted by Bike Walk Knoxville with support from the City of Knoxville, aims to promote physical activity and community interaction during this free community event.

This international initiative promotes healthy living, local businesses, and sustainable transportation in cities. It is an opportunity to rethink our streets as a public space for all ages and abilities to use. This is our 9th event with an average attendance of 3,500+ people.

"Open Streets is unique and so much fun because it offers a fresh way for families to appreciate and enjoy our urban corridors. I'm especially pleased that this spring's Open Streets will showcase our beautiful Suttree Landing Park and the great mix of businesses on Sevier Avenue. Bring your family and friends, and come play in the street on May 15!" says Mayor Indya Kincannon.

The event will have a variety of performances, with a focus on music and dancing. Attendees can participate in activities provided by local businesses, play a game, or peacefully stroll the street while enjoying live music and street performers. There will be food and drink for sale from both food trucks and businesses located along the route. There will be activities for all ages and abilities to enjoy. Open Streets is family and pet friendly. Strollers, scooters, skateboards, and bikes are welcome – just no cars!
