Do You Want to Be a County Historian?

Do You Want to Be a County Historian?

By Jedidiah McKeehan

How would you like to be the resident historian for your county? There might be an opening!

Tennessee Code Annotated section 5-18-101 states, "The legislative body of each county shall appoint some person of the county as county historian, who shall serve without compensation and whose duties shall include, but not be limited to, collecting and preserving local and state history, and in doing so, to work with, in such manner as may mutually be agreed upon, the state historian, the state library and archives and the Tennessee historical commission."

You can find the full list of historians at: Tennessee County Historians | Tennessee Secretary of State, but the website lists the names and contact details for every county in the state, and some of the counties have open positions. Apply now!
