A World of Knowledge

A World of Knowledge

By Ralphine Major

As far back as I can remember, they commanded a prominent place on the bookshelves in our home—a set of World Book Encyclopedias.  My brother and I were still in elementary school in the sixties when our parents bought them.  A friend of theirs no longer needed them.  To our parents, they were a necessity for our schooling.  The books looked new with gold embossed lettering on them.

Each year we purchased a yearbook with news of that particular year, and tags were included for cross-referencing.  We used the set of encyclopedias through high school and college as our primary source of information.  Who among us could have imagined in those days how much technology would affect our process of research with computers and the internet today?  Even after our school years were behind us, we often referred to the set of encyclopedias in addition to the internet.  Technology is great, but there is something unique about turning the pages of a book.

Words of Faith: "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man."

Luke 2:52 (KJV).
