UPDATED 2:45 PM PT – Monday, June 6, 2022

Multiple states across the country are deciding their nominees for statewide and congressional races. On Tuesday June 7, primary elections for California, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, New jersey, New Mexico and South Dakota will take place.

In the golden state, the biggest races for Republicans to look for on their ballot are the state controller and attorney general race. In those races a Republican has a possibility to make it to the general election. Senator Alex Padilla's (D-Calif.) appointment to the seat is the reason he is on the ballot for a partial and full-term, which left multiple candidates vying to unseat him.

There are also several congressional seats that are expected to stay Republican, while different districts become more competitive due to redistricting. This caused David Giglio (R-Calif.) to throw his hat in the ring for an open seat in the newly drawn 13th congressional district.

Due to the high hills to climb, some residents are watching some other interesting political shake-ups like the election of the Los Angeles mayor and the recall vote against San Francisco's district attorney.

Down in the Hawkeye state, Governor Kim Reynolds (R-Iowa) was positioned to win her re-election and three Republicans are hoping to unseat the Democrat Rep. Cindy Axne.

In Mississippi, the four incumbent House members are expected to win their primary elections.

In Montana, Republican Rep. Matt Rosendale is expected to keep his seat, but the treasure state gained a new congressional district after the census. The second congressional district leans red and polls show the Republican nominee will most likely win the general election.

In New Jersey, the garden state Republicans almost unseated their Democrat Governor Phil Murphy. For that reason, many eyes are watching to see how many House seats could get flipped amid experts pointing out voters frustrations with the Democrat party.

In New Mexico, they hope to take advantage of the national environment. Five different Republicans plan to unseat the Democrat Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

Finally, in South Dakota, Republican Governor Kristi Noem who's endorsed by former president Trump, is expected to win her re-election bid. The second ranking Republican Senator John Thune is also expected to win re-nomination.

Polls close beginning at 8 p.m. eastern time in New Jersey.
