According to the Pentagon, Russian troops are facing major supply issues. During Monday's press briefing, spokesman John Kirby said Russia is several days behind its anticipated timeline of progress.

Kirby also revealed Russia's large convoy outside Kiev remains stalled. He then noted the U.S. believes there is some truth behind Russia seeking to recruit Syrian fighters.

Kirby confirmed the secretary of defense ordered the deployment of an additional 500 U.S. military personnel to locations in Europe to help bolster troops already there.

"These as all the other ones we've talked about in recent weeks are not permanent moves," he stated. "They are temporary moves and we're going to adjust our posture continuously as conditions require."

Kirby reiterated that U.S. forces would not be deployed in Ukraine, but are being sent to bolster NATO forces.
