Although many say political discourse reached a new low when the feud between the hosts of MSNBC’s Morning Joe and President Trump fired up, the ratings for the show reached a new high.

Ratings for the morning cable news show reached their highest ever the day after Trump tweeted his insult to Mika Brzezinski over their very critical comments about his presidency.

Nielsen ratings reported Wednesday had 1.66 million total viewers for the show Friday, beating their longtime competitor Fox & Friends, which garnered 1.5 million viewers.

Morning Joe also beat out competitors in the key 25-54 demographic, with 400,000 viewers, while Fox & Friends came in at 353,000 viewers in the demographic.

Trump was widely criticized by partisans and politicians from both sides of the aisle for his tweet attack which centered on Mika Brzezinski’s appearance.

“I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don’t watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came..” read one tweet, which continued in another, “…to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year’s Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!”

Trump showed he was completely resistant to the mountain of criticism he received from pundits and politicians when he tweeted another criticism Saturday, saying, “Crazy Joe Scarborough and dumb as a rock Mika are not bad people, but their low rated show is dominated by their NBC bosses. Too bad!”

Ironically, it appears his tweeting has led to their dramatic ratings hike, even as he was mocking them for poor ratings.

Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough wrote a scathing rebuke of the president’s claims in the Washington Post Friday, after which Scarborough said that he had proof that his version of events was true and the president was lying.

Not all condemned Trump for the tweet. Some of his allies, including Sheriff David Clarke and Governor Scott Walker, encouraged him to keep tweeting, while Meghan McCain excoriated the Morning Joe hosts for hypocritically attacking the physical appearances of women on Fox News.

After Donald Trump attacked Mika Brzezinski and her 'Morning Joe' colleague, Joe Scarborough, ratings for the show surged before the July 4 holiday weekend, securing a rare victory over main competitor 'Fox & Friends.'
