New York Post scorches NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio with brutal newspaper cover

On Sunday, the New York Post made it very clear how they felt about New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio leaving his city responsibilities to go to Germany for the G20 Summit.

With a picture of de Blasio smiling, the Post wrote in big bold letters: “Deutsch bag.” The headline was a play on the common American insult “douche bag.”

“Mayor feeds his ego in Germany after fleeing a city in mourning,” the cover’s subheading read.

De Blasio was heavily criticized over the weekend and late last week after he abruptly left New York City to attend G20 Summit activities, including many of the anti-capitalist protests that eventually devolved into riots.

The mayor left the city at a time when it was mourning the loss of a New York Police Department patrol officer who had been assassinated as she sat in her patrol car in the Bronx just one day prior. De Blasio also opted to skip the swearing in ceremony for a new class of NYPD officers by traveling to Germany.

In response, New Yorkers scorched de Blasio for leaving.

New York State Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, a Republican who is likely challenging de Blasio for his job this later this year, blasted him for leaving the city for Germany.

“Unbelievable. Instead of jet-setting around the world, he should be here doing his job,” she said. “A police officer was murdered, street homelessness has skyrocketed and people continue to get delayed on the trains.”

“The mayor should be embarrassed by the way he has treated the men and women of our police department,” she added.

Fox News hosts Eric Bolling and Greg Gutfeld similarly tore into de Blasio.

“You know who the worst is out of everything? Mayor Bill de Blasio,” Gutfeld said on Fox News Thursday. “Without telling anybody, anybody in the city, he flew to Germany to protest. He claims the the cost was footed by Hamberg…what a horrible little man-child this is, to sneak out of the city. He leaves his city’s responsibilities to go protest. He’s such a dirtbag.”

Bolling called de Blasio a “disrespectful SOB of a mayor” and told him not to come back to NYC.

The Post also urged de Blasio not to come back in Friday’s cover story: “The day after an NYPD cop was executed, Mayor de Blasio jets off to Germany to rally lefties against the G-20. AND DON’T COME BACK!” the headline read.
